Stephens, sin problemas ante Fruhvirtova
Guadalajara, Jalisco, 17 de octubre 2022.- La estadounidense Sloane Stephens aprovechó toda su experiencia para acabar con las aspiraciones de la joven checa Linda Fruhvirtova, a la que venció por parciales de 6-0 y 6-2 para acceder a la segunda ronda del GDL Open Akron 1000.
En el juego que cerró la actividad este lunes en el Grand Stand Caliente, Stephens se impuso en sets seguidos en apenas 53 minutos de acción y espera rival que saldrá del encuentro que disputarán la suiza Belinda Bencic y la canadiense Leylah Fernández.
Stephens, número 50 del ranking de la WTA, controló por completo la primera manga. Logró tres rompimientos de servicio -5 en todo el partido- y no le dio ninguna oportunidad a la jugadora procedente de la fase de calificación, quien pese a todo su esfuerzo no podÃa con la estadounidense.
En la segunda manga Stephens inició de la misma forma, con un dominio total ante la joven checa que iba de un lado a otro de la cancha, contestando a cada impacto de la estadounidense, pero sin el éxito esperado. Y quien caminaba firme al triunfo era la ex número 3 del mundo.
Fue en el noveno game del partido cuando Fruhvirtova pudo sacudirse un poco la presión y el dominio ante su experimentada rival para ganar su primer game, pero la campeona del US Open en 2017 recuperó el control. Cuando la checa intentó subir a la red, encontró respuesta de su rival; al lograr un drop shot, Stephens corrió para responder y ganar el punto. No habÃa forma de que Linda pudiera con la experimentada norteamericana.
En el sexto juego del segundo set la checa logró su única oportunidad de quiebre, la cual no concretó porque Stephens recuperó de forma inmediata su dominio para encaminarse al triunfo. Fruhvirtova sumó otro game para hacer más decoroso el marcador, pero Stephens fue amplia dominadora y sentenció el juego para concretar su pase a la segunda ronda.
Stephens, campeona del torneo WTA 250 de Zapopan hace unos meses, dio el primer paso en busca del tÃtulo en el GDL Open Akron 1000, conoce bien estas canchas, está entre las favoritas de la afición y debe estar considerada entre las candidatas al tÃtulo.

Guadalajara, Jalisco, October 17th 2022.- American Sloane Stephens took advantage of all of her experience to finish off youngster Linda Fruhvirtova, from the Czech Republic with a 6-0, 6-2 score and moved on to the second round of the GDL Open Akron 1000.
In the last game on Monday at the Grandstand Caliente, Stephens got a win in straight sets in just 53 minutes and is waiting for the winner of the match between Belinda Bencic and Canadian Leylah Fernández.
Stephens, ranked 50th in the WTA, had a complete control in the first set. She managed three breaks, five in all of the match, and gave no chance to the player that was coming from the qualification tournament and who gave her all but could not keep up with the American.
In the second set, Stephens started strong and dominant against the Czech who was moving from side to side on the court, answering every shot from the American and former number 3 of the world, but without success.Â
It was the ninth game of the match when Fruhvirtova was able to shake some of the pressure and dominance of her more experienced rival to win the first game, but the 2017 US Open champion regain control as Linda realized that there was no way that she could keep up with the American.
In the sixth game of the second set the Czech got her only breaking chance, but she missed it and Stephens rallied right away to regain her form and marched towards the victory. Fruhvirtova won another game, but Stephens finished the match and sealed her ticket to the next round.
Stephens, who won the Zapopan 250 a few months ago, took the first step towards another title in Guadalajara, a place where she is familiar with the courts and is amongst the favorites of the Mexicans and one of the top contenders for the title.
