Rybakina luce y elimina a Pliskova
Guadalajara, Jalisco, 18 de octubre 2022.- La tenista kazaja Elena Rybakina hizo válidos los pronósticos y clasificó a la segunda ronda del GDL Open Akron 1000, luego de vencer en dos mangas a la checa Karolina Pliskova, quien entregó cada set con una doble falta, en uno de los juegos que se realizó este martes en el Estadio Akron.
La flamante campeona del Grand Slam de Wimbledon se presentó en tierras mexicanas y firmó su boleto a la segunda ronda del torneo luego de imponerse por parciales de 7-6 (5) y 6-2 en apenas 1:16 horas de acción.
El juego comenzó muy igualado, ambas defendiendo su servicio y con un tenis muy sólido. A pesar de la intensidad con la que iniciaron, Pliskova fue la que tomó ventaja al romper el saque de su oponente y se adelantó 5-3, pero no supo mantenerla y fue alcanzada muy pronto.
Tuvieron que definir el primer set en “tie break”, donde un mini break le dio la ventaja 3-1 a Rybakina, quien nunca la perdería. Estuvo arriba 5-2, y aunque Pliskova igualó 5-5, una doble falta le dio el triunfo en la primera manga a la kazaja.
Pliskova, ex número uno del mundo, estaba obligada a la reacción o se despediría pronto del torneo, pero al inicio del segundo set se vio en desventaja 2-0 luego de que le quebraron su saque. La reacción llegó pronto y le pagó con la misma moneda a Rybakina para igualar el partido.
Pero eso fue todo para la actual 20 del mundo y número uno en 2017, pues los siguientes cuatro games fueron para Rybakina, quien aseguró su boleto a la segunda ronda del torneo, donde enfrentará este miércoles a la tercera en las preferencias y número cinco del ranking mundial, la estadounidense Jessica Pegula.
Por su parte, la canadiense Eugene Bouchard requirió de 1:26 horas para clasificarse a la segunda ronda del certamen luego de vencer a la estadounidense Kayla Day en dos sets, por 7-5 y 6-3, y su siguiente rival será Jelena Ostapenko, sembrada 12 en el torneo mexicano.
En otro juego de primera ronda, la italiana Martina Trevisan no dio ninguna opción a la japonesa Nao Hibino y la derrotó por 6-4 y 6-3 para seguir con vida en el torneo, y ahora se medirá con la checa Katerina Siniakova.

Guadalajara, Jalisco, October 18th 2022.- Elena Rybakina, from Kazakhstan, qualified to the second round of the GDL Open Akron 1000, after beating in straight sets Czech Karolina Pliskova, who gave each set with double faults, in one of the matches on Tuesday at Estadio Akron.
The reigning Grand Slam champion from Wimbledon debuted on Mexican soil and punched her ticket on to the second round with a 7-6 (5) and 6-2 win in just 1:16 of play.
The game started very even with both players holding serve and with a solid tennis. Despite the early intensity, Pliskova pulled ahead 5-3 with a break, but could not hold.
The set needed a tie-break where a mini break gave Rybakina an edge that she never lost. She went ahead 5-2, but Plisova tied it 5-5 and lost it with her first double fault.
Pliskova, the former number one player in the world, was forced to react and she fell behind 2-0, but she got a break and managed to tie it 2-2.
But that was all for the current number 20th in the world and number one in 2017, because the next four games were for Rybakina, who secured a spot in the second round of the tournament where she will face off against the third seeded and the fifth in the WTA rankings, American Jessica Pegula.
Meanwhile, Canadian Eugene Bouchard needed only 1:26 to qualify for the second round with a convincing 7-5, 6-3 win over American Kayla Day and she will play Jelena Ostapenko next.
In another first round match, Italian Martina Trevisan gave no choice to Japanese Nao Hibino and beat her 6-4 and 6-3 to remain alive in the tournament and now she will play Katerina Siniakova.
