Haddad Maia y Danilina despiden a EU del GDL Open Akron 1000
Guadalajara 21 de octubre 2022.- Con el encuentro de dobles en los cuartos de final del GDL Open Akron 1000, la brasileña Beatriz Haddad Maia y Anna Danilina de Kazajistán dejaron fuera del torneo en esta modalidad a las estadounidenses Jessica Pegula y Coco Gauff en dos sets corridos al ganar 6-4 7-5.
De esta manera, sellaron su pase como la segunda pareja semifinalista, donde por la tarde las sembradas número 1 Barbora Krejcikova y Katerina Siniakova fueron las primeras en pasar lista en el Grand Stand Caliente al vencer a Jelena Ostapenko y Liudmila Kichenok.
En la semifinal, Haddad Maia y Danilina tendrán la oportunidad de buscar la revancha contra la pareja checa, campeonas del Abierto de Australia 2022. No solo eso, la brasileña, preclasificada en singles, fue eliminada por Katerina Siniakova en la segunda ronda del último Master 1000 del año.
“Me encanta jugar en México, me siento muy bien acá, ya que casi no tenemos oportunidades de jugar en casa (Brasil)”, expresó feliz la nacida en Sao Paulo al final del encuentro.
La brasileña y la kazaja, quienes habían entrenado previo al partido en la misma cancha del Centro Panamericano de Tenis, sellaron con gran soltura el primer parcial 6-4 y, motivadas, rompieron el servicio de Gauff en el inicio del segundo set. Una pelota al cuerpo de Pegula, ejecutado por Haddad, fue la que definió el punto.
Pero pronto se vieron sorprendidas por la potencia de la dupla estadounidense, que pisó el acelerador y les dieron la vuelta 4-1 arriba en el marcador.
La potencia del servicio de Gauff fue una gran aliada para mantener la ventaja, sin embargo, Pegula se vio dominada en algunos “rally” y cometió varios errores en la red que la orillaron a empatar el encuentro 5-5.
La experiencia de Haddad como doblista, que este año la ha llevado a ocupar el ranking número 21, ganar 4 títulos de la WTA y 9 ITF, surgió de manera oportuna para darle nuevamente la vuelta al marcador y colocarse 6-5.
Danilina, número 25 del ranking en dobles, quiso estar a la altura de su pareja y logró cerrar el encuentro 7-5.

Guadalajara, October 21st, 2022.- Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maia and Kazakh Anna Danilina said goodbye to the last Americans standing in the GDL Open Akron 1000 by defeatin Jessica Pegula and Coco Gauff 6-4, 7-5 in the quarterfinals of the doubles-tournament.
Haddad Maia and Danilina reach the semis, joining the Czech tandem of Barbora Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova in the semifinal who earlier today defeated Jelena Ostapenko and Liudmila Kichenok.
In the semifinals, Haddad Maia and Danilina will face the Czech couple, champions of this year’s Australian Open with some sort of revenge in mind. Earlier this week, the Brazilian lost to Siniakova in the second round of the last WTA 1000 of the year.
“I love playing in Mexico, I feel very good in here since we don’t get to play that much back at home”, said the Sao Paulo native.
The Brazilian-Kazakh team, who practice in the same court of the Pan-American Tennis Complex just a couple of hours earlier, looked comfortable in their way to winning the first set 6-4.
They immediately broke Gauff’s serve to begin the second set, closing the game with a hard shot by Haddad that Pegula couldn’t shake off.
But the American couple displayed its power, especially during Gauff’s serve games, taking a 4-1 lead. However, Pegula looked errant in some rallies and made several errors at the net, setting the table for Haddad Maia and Danilina to tie the match 5-5.
Haddad Maia’s experience as a doubles-player, where she is currently ranked 21 and has won 4 WTA and 9 ITF titles, came in handy at the right time for a 6-5 lead.
Danilina, No. 25 doubles player in the world, closed out the match with her serve.
