Krejcikova and Siniakova move on to the GDL Open Akron semis

Guadalajara, Jalisco, October 212st, 2022.- The Czech tandem of Barbora Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova came back from a set down to defeat Ukrainian Lyudmyla Kichenok and Latvian Jelena Ostapenko and move on to the semifinals of the GDL Open Akron 1000 at the Centro Panamericano de Tenis.

The top-ranked couple needed 1:43 hours to defeat Kichenok and Ostapenko 3-6, 7-5, 10-3 and place themselves among the four best pairings of the tournament.

The Czech couple completely dominated the first set, according to the stats, but they couldn’t convert any of their seven break points, wasting many chances in the early stages of the match.

Kichenok and Ostapenko, on the other hand, only had one break point, but that was all they needed. They held their serve to win the first set, shocking the fans at the Grandstand Caliente.

Krejcikova and Siniakova didn’t have the best of situations to begin the second set, losing her serve twice, but Kichenok and Ostapenko didn’t seized on their lead.

The Czech couple managed their second break of the set in the eighth game to tie the score 4-4 and, after holding their service, broke one more time to send the match to a super tiebreak.

From that point on, the Czech found their groove. They got a mini break to take a 2-1 lead and then won four points in a row for a decisive advantage and a place in the semifinals, where they’ll face the winner of the match between Americans Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula versus Australian Anna Danilina and Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maia.
