Gauff, primera cuartofinalista

Gauff, the first to qualify for the quarterfinals

Guadalajara, Jalisco, October 20th, 2022.- Coco Gauff needed just 61 minutes to become the first player to reach the quarterfinals of the GDL Open Akron 1000. The American was in complete control over Italian Martina Trevisan in her 6-0, 6-3 win.

Trevisan couldn’t avenge her lost to Gauff during this year’s Roland Garros semis, also in straight sets.

On Thursday, Gauff was dominant over her Italian rival, who won her first WTA title in Rabat last May.

The Italian couldn’t hold her serve once in the first set and even after she managed two break points in the third game, Gauff erased both to keep her in control and win the first set after just 23 minutes.

Trevisan wasted two more break points to begin the second set and Gauff took a 3-0 lead after breaking the Italian’s serve in the second game.

Trevisan didn’t hide her relief when she managed to hold her service for the first time, until the fourth game of the second set, triggering a huge ovation from the fans at Estadio Akron.

Coco broke two more times and lost her serve once on her way to the final 8 of the last WTA 1000 of the season.

Gauff finished with two aces and six double faults. She played 63% of her first serves and won 62 points. Trevisan, on the other hand, committed four double faults and managed to win just 38 points.
