Guadalajara, Jalisco, September 29th, 2022.- Emma Raducanu will visit Guadalajara once again this year. The British has been awarded a wild card for the main draw of the Guadalajara Open AKRON WTA 1000.
This will be the second time the 66th ranked player will be playing in Jalisco, and the first since her appearance at the Zapopan WTA 250 last February
The 19-year-old made it to the semifinals last week at the WTA 250 at Korea, where she withdrew during the 3rd set of her semifinals match against Jelena Ostapenko because of injury. That was her first semifinal since she won it all at the U.S. Open in 2021 where she came from the qualifying rounds until the final without conceding a single set.
On that tournament, she defeated one of the most promising players on the tour, Leylah Fernandez. At the end of the 2021 season, Raducanu finished among the top 10 players in the rankings. Until the week of August 29th, she was ranked 11 in the world.
In the first week of August, during the Citi Open, the youngster explained how proud she is in the way she handles everything around her.
“I knew this year was going to be complicated, trying to find my place at this level. I´ve learned lot, I´m very resilient I´ve been knocked down and I always get up”, said to the press.
After winning the US Open, expectations grew around her, however the British keeps the competitive spirit alive and assure that she is trying to avoid the pressure of facing every game like it´s her last. With a new coach (Russian Dmitry Tursunov) and the hope to have a great tournament in Guadalajara, Raducanu joins the stars who will try to in the Guadalajara Open Akron 1000 title.
