Olmos y Dabrowski dicen adiós
Guadalajara, Jalisco, 21 de octubre 2022.- La mexicana Giuliana Olmos y la canadiense Gabriela Dabrowski terminaron su andar en el GDL Open Akron 1000. Gugu y Gabi no pudieron seguir en carrera para buscar su segundo título de esta categoría en el año, ya que en mayo se coronaron en el Masters de Madrid.
Fueron las chinas Yifan Xu y Zhaoxuan Yang quienes acabaron con el sueño de Giuliana de coronarse ante su público, y se impusieron por 7-5, 5-7 y 10-8 para clasificar a las semifinales del último torneo 1000 en la temporada.
Giuliana y Gabriela comenzaron con buenos augurios el partido al ganar los ocho primeros puntos, después de quedarse con el saque de Yang.
Olmos y Dabrowski mantuvieron un buen duelo con las chinas, que en el sexto game recuperaron el quiebre, sobre el saque de Dabrowski, y la paridad se mantuvo en los siguientes cinco juegos.
Giuliana tomó su turno de servicio para forzar a un desempate, pero una devolución de su pareja que se fue larga por la línea de base con 40-40 en el marcador, le otorgó el primer set a la pareja asiática, lo que provocó el enfado de la canadiense, quien lanzó su raqueta contra la banca ubicada al costado de la juez de silla.
Después de tres juegos en el segundo set el partido tuvo que detenerse unos minutos, porque la lluvia hizo su aparición. Esa breve pausa le dio un poco de calma a Dabrowski y le permitió mantener la paridad en el marcador hasta el décimo game, después de que el partido se reanudara.
Fue en el undécimo juego, con Xu al servicio, que la pareja de la mexicana y la canadiense salió a buscar el quiebre que le permitiera seguir con vida y obligar a un tercer set, y con determinación lo consiguió.
El super tie break fue una locura, el Grand Stand Caliente se volcó en apoyo hacia Olmos y su compañera, alentándolas en cada punto, manteniendo hasta el último la ilusión de que avanzaran a la siguiente fase.
Las chinas permanecieron en calma y fueron más efectivas, para concretar la victoria en su segundo punto de match point, por 10-8.
Olmos y Dabrowski se preparan ahora para disputar las Finals, en Fort Worth, del 31 de octubre al 7 de noviembre.
Olmos and Dabrowski say goodbye
Guadalajara, Jalisco, October 21st, 2022.- Mexican Giuliana Olmos and Canadian Gabriela Darowski finished their run at the GDL Open Akron 1000. Gugu and Gabi could not remain aiming for their second title this year after winning the Madrid- Masters last May.
The Chinese Yifan Xu and Zhaoxuan Yang ended Giuliana´s dream of winning in front of her crowd and they took the win 7-5, 5-7 and 10-8 to qualify for the semifinals of the last tournament 1000 of the season.
Giuliana and Gabriela started the match with good omens by winning the first eight points, after keeping Yang’s serve.
Olmos and Dabrowski had a good duel with the Chinese, who recovered the break in the sixth game, on Dabrowski’s serve, and the parity remained in the following five games.
Giuliana took her turn of serve to force a tie break, but a return from her partner that went long down the baseline with the score at 40-40, awarded the first set to the Asian couple as the Canadian got angry and threw her racket against the bench located next to the chair umpire.
After three games in the second set the match had to be stopped for a few minutes, because of rain. That brief pause gave Dabrowski some calm and she was able to keep the score even until the tenth game, after the match resumed.
It was in the eleventh game, with Xu serving, that the couple of the Mexican and the Canadian went out to look for the break that would allow them to continue with life and force a third set, and with determination they achieved it.
The super tie break was crazy, the Grandstand Caliente turned to support Olmos and her partner, encouraging them at every point, maintaining the illusion that they would advance to the next phase.
The Chinese remained calm and more effective, securing victory on their second match point, 10-8.
Olmos and Dabrowski are now preparing to play the Finals, in Fort Worth, from October 31 to November 7.
