Guadalajara, sinónimo de buena organización deportiva
Guadalajara, Jalisco, 16 octubre 2022.- La realización del Guadalajara Open AKRON 1000 va más allá de una oportunidad para admirar a las mejores raquetas del mundo en el Complejo Panamericano de tenis. El hecho de albergar uno de los eventos más destacados en el circuito de la WTA implica beneficios en todos los niveles.
Gustavo Santoscoy, director del torneo, explica lo que significa ser anfitriones del último WTA 1000 en el calendario 2022. “México tiene gran potencial y eso lo ve el mundo, y la WTA no es la excepción. Ese organismo vio a una afición volcada en un evento [en las Finals de noviembre] y la gran cobertura que se le dio. Queremos que los gobiernos entiendan la importancia no solamente del deporte, sino que hay una derrama económica importantísima, viene una transmisión a nivel mundial a más de 180 países, vamos a tener más de 30 millones de personas mirando, es un evento en el que todos ganamos. Y en el deporte que sea lo hacemos bien, así quién no quiere venir a México”.
Esto a la vez despierta el interés por el deporte entre los más pequeños, un aspecto muy importante en cualquier sociedad; en este sentido, Santoscoy considera que “la promoción del deporte no es solamente a través de la activación física, este tipo de eventos genera un interés único de poder jugar ese deporte que estás viendo al máximo nivel; hablando deportivamente hemos visto un crecimiento tenístico importante [en Guadalajara], hoy las niñas ya saben de jugadoras, nos preguntan por ellas, por nombres que antes eran impensables. En eso gana México, en que sigamos involucrando a más niños en este deporte”.
Hoy Guadalajara es vista con muy buenos ojos por el mundo tenístico a nivel internacional. La excelente organización que ofreció en las WTA Finals de noviembre y después en el Abierto de Zapopan, le permitió posicionarse en el gusto de la WTA. “La verdad es que nos ven muy bien, estuvimos en varios torneos y ya ponernos a la altura de Miami, Roma, Madrid, Indian Wells, de las grandes capitales del tenis que han generado este tipo de eventos 1000 por años… llegar una ciudad nueva, ponerse a esa altura y poder presentar un evento de estos habla bien de la organización, del estado, de los patrocinadores, estamosdejando buena huella para que sigan viniendo este tipo de eventos”, resaltó Gustavo Santoscoy.
A unos días de que comiencen las actividades del Guadalajara Open AKRON, lo único que queda es esperar el mejor espectáculo. “Los que estén en el torneo nunca olvidarán que se tuvo un WTA 1000 en Guadalajara, con las mejores del mundo, veremos el tenis al más alto nivel como nunca se ha visto en Latinoamérica”.

Guadalajara, synonym of great organization of sporting events
Guadalajara, Jalisco, October 16th 2022.- Hosting the Guadalajara Open AKRON 1000 is more than an opportunity to watch some of the best Tennis players in the world at the Pan-American Tennis Complex. Putting together one of the main events on the WTA tour also means benefits in every level.
Gustavo Santoscoy, executive manager of the tournament, explains the meaning of hosting the last 1000 event in the WTA’s calendar.
“Mexico has the potential and that’s what the world sees. The WTA is no exception. The tour got to see all the enthusiasm amongst the fans (during the WTA Finals last November) and the great coverage it received. We want the governments to understand the importance not only of sports but of the huge economic benefits they bring. We’ll be having a world-wide broadcast to over 180 countries; we’ll be having more than 30 million viewers. We all win with these events, regardless of the sport. That’s why everybody wants to come to Mexico”.
This also sparks the interest in tennis among children, a very important aspect in every society and Santoscoy says that “the way no promote sports is not only through physical activity. These events make you want to play the sport you are watching being played at the highest level. Sports-wise, tennis has seen a huge growth among Guadalajara’s children. Nowadays, girls know the players’ names, they ask us about them, names we wouldn’t think about just a few years ago. That’s a win for México, the fact that we can continue to involve children in this sport”.
Today, the tennis world embraces Guadalajara. The world-class organization of the WTA Finals last November, and then the Abierto Zapopan open the doors of the WTA to Guadalajara.
“They really like us. We were in a lot of tournaments, and they put us right there with Miami, Roma, Madrid and Indian Wells, the great capitals of tennis, which have been hosting this 1000 events for years now. Getting to a new city, achieve those heights and being able to put out such a high-quality event speaks highly of the organization, the state, the sponsors. We are setting the stage for more of these events in the future”, noted Santoscoy.
Just a day before the Guadalajara Open Akron begins, the only expectation is a great show.
“The ones working in this event will never forget that Guadalajara hosted a WTA 1000 with the world’s best players. We’ll be seeing tennis at its highest level, like never before in Latin America”.
