Ons Jabeur won her second title of the season after winning the Berlin Open. The Tunisian was leading 6/3, 2/1, when Belinda Belinda Belinda Bencic had to retire with a left ankle injury, so the African took the win at the Bett1open WTA 500.

At the awards ceremony she commented that it was not the way she would have wanted to finish the match and then turned to Belinda to say: "You are a fighter and I definitely wouldn't want to play 3 sets with you, it's always tough to play 3 sets against you, thank you for being such a good friend and such a good athlete. I hope you are feeling well, I'm sure you will be ready for Wimbledon, good job to your team". Finally she thanked her own team for always supporting her and for the energy of the Tunisian crowd who cheered her on during the match.

Ons Jabeur won the Berlin Open after Belinda Bencic withdrew due to injury and announced her doubles partner for the next tournament.

With this victory, Jabeur moved up to 3rd position in the ranking overtaking Paula Badosa and remains in 2nd place in the rankings for the WTA Finals 2022.

Ons, stunned tennis fans by announcing that Serena Williams will be his doubles partner in the upcoming Rothesay Internationalwhere the American will return to play on the WTA Tour after an absence of almost 12 months. Williams will use these matches as preparation for Wimbledon, as she will participate thanks to the Wild Card provided by the English tournament.

Jabeur will be the 6th player to play with Serena in doubles, the other 5 players were:

  • Venus Williams.
  • Alexandra Stevenson
  • Caroline Wozniacki
  • Martina Navratilova
  • Alison Riske
