Victoria Azarenka tiene estreno victorioso
Guadalajara, Jalisco, 17 de Octubre 2022.- Victoria Azarenka, una de las consentidas de la afición mexicana, comenzó con el pie derecho su actuación en el GDL Open Akron 1000 al imponerse en sets corridos a la rusa Elina Avanesyan, en el partido que abrió las actividades en el Estadio Akron.
El WTA 1000 que se realiza por primera vez en México dio inicio y Azarenka se impuso por parciales de 6-4 y 6-2 luego de 1:26 horas de juego. El torneo arrancó de manera oficial y Vika, aunque le costó un poco en el último game, pudo sentenciar el juego y clasificarse a la segunda ronda.
La ex número uno del mundo comenzó el partido de gran manera, con un juego sólido desde el fondo de la cancha ante una rival que opuso resistencia en el encuentro, pero la bielorrusa poco a poco tomó el control del partido.
En el séptimo game Azarenka se adelantó 0-30, y aunque Avanesyan recuperó la ventaja, la bielorrusa sentenció para romper el saque de su oponente y enfilarse al triunfo. Ambas mantuvieron su servicio en la parte final del primer set y Vika se puso 1-0.
Al inicio de la segunda manga Azarenka fue la que sorprendió y logró su segundo break del partido. Sus potentes golpes no tuvieron respuesta y se adelantó 1-0, aunque algunos errores en su saque, incluida una doble falta, permitieron a su rival que igualar de forma inmediata. En esta segunda manga ambas tuvieron fallas contantes con su servicio, la vencedora que terminó con cuatro dobles faltas, por seis de su rival.
Ninguna podía conservar su saque, pues los siguientes tres games también fueron con rupturas, hasta que Azarenka mantuvo su servicio para el 4-2 que la pondría en ventaja. Sumó otro rompimiento más para terminar el partido con 5 y en el octavo game tuvo algunas complicaciones, pues desaprovechó tres puntos para partido, pero hizo efectivo el cuarto y así se quedó con la victoria.
En segunda ronda enfrentará a otra de las consentidas de la afición, la española Paula Badosa, número 8 del mundo, en un duelo que dividirá a la afición del estadio Akron.
Otro juego de primera ronda que ya se definió fue para Liudmila Samsonova, quien derrotó por 6-1 y 7-5 a Kaia Kanepi en 1:21 horas. La ganadora tendrá un difícil compromiso en la segunda ronda, pues tendrá como rival a la segunda favorita al título, Aryna Sabalenka.

Victoria Azarenka debuts with a victory
Guadalajara, Jalisco, October 17th 2022.- Victoria Azarenka, a fan favorite among Mexicans, started off on the right foot in the GDL Open Akron 1000 beating Russian Elina Avanesyan in straight sets in the first match at the Estadio Akron.
The WTA 1000 that is being played in Mexico for the first time began on Monday and Azarenka got the win 6-4, 6-2 after 1:26 of play. The tournament kicked off officially and Vika, even though she struggled in the last game, was able to dominate the match and moved on to the second round.
The former No.1 player had a strong start, playing great from the baseline against a rival who did her best to counter the Belarus player. Azarenka, however, managed to control de match.
In the 7th game, Azarenka was ahead 0-30, and even after Avanesyan managed to pull ahead, Vika broke serve in her way to victory. Both players held serve in the final games of the first set, which Azarenka won convincingly.
Azarenka began the second set with her second break of the match. Her powerful strokes were no match for the Russian and Vika pulled ahead 1-0. But in the very next game the Belarus player had some troubles serving, including a double fault, that allowed Avanesyan to pull even.
The struggles in the serve game were a constant for both players throughout the second set. Azarenka committed four double faults while her rival had six.
Neither player managed to hold serve and both players broke each other in the next three games until Azarenka held to pull ahead 4-2. She broke again, her fifth of the match, but found troubles in the 8th game of the second serve, wasting three match points. She finally converted on her fourth chance to finish off Avanesyan.
Next, she will face another favorite of the Mexican fans, Spanish Paula Badosa, currently No. 8 in the world, in a match who will surely divide the support in the stands of the Estadio Akron.
In other match of the first round, Liudmila Samsonova defeated Kaia Kanepi 6-1, 7-5 after 1:21 hours. The winner will face next the second-seeded Aryna Sabalenka in the second round.
