Kalinskaya corta racha ganadora de Krejcikova
Guadalajara, Jal., 18 de octubre 2022.- La rusa Anna Kalinskaya dio una sorpresa al imponerse a la checa Barbora Krejcikova, novena sembrada en el torneo, cortándole una racha de nueve triunfos seguidos.
Kalinskaya dejó parciales de 6-3 y 6-4 para avanzar a la segunda ronda del GDL Open Akron 1000, en la que se medirá con la belga Elise Mertens.
Era el primer enfrentamiento entre ambas en el circuito y Kalinskaya supo resolver. La rusa conoce bien la cancha del estadio Akron, ya que en febrero pasado hizo semifinales en el Abierto de Zapopan, que se jugó en estas instalaciones. Aunque su rival también había jugado aquí, en las WTA Finals de 2021.
Barbora venía con ritmo después de conquistar títulos de forma consecutiva, en Tallin y Ostrava. Pero ayer terminó con 46 errores no forzados y 45% de primeros servicios, por lo que no pudo conseguir alargar su racha ganadora.
“Me gusta jugar aquí, no conozco otro público como el de aquí. Salí con confianza, sabía que era importante jugar bien los primeros puntos”, dijo Kalinskaya después de su triunfo.
Anna sorprendió a la checa con un temprano quiebre en el segundo game. Krejcikova tuvo problemas para mantener su saque en sus siguientes turnos, aunque al final ese rompimiento hizo la diferencia. En el tercer game tuvo un break point a favor, pero no pudo concretarlo. La rusa se mantuvo segura y sirvió para el parcial, que se llevó sin problemas.
El inicio del segundo set tampoco fue bueno para Krejcikova, quien nuevamente tuvo break point en contra, pero los salvó.
La checa cedió sus saques en los juegos 3 y 5 y rompió el de su rival en el cuarto. Terminó con un 45% de primeros servicios y 10 dobles faltas.
También avanzó a la segunda ronda la estadounidense Madison Keys (13), quien dejó un doble 6-3 en su duelo con la polaca Magda Linette. Por el pase a la tercera ronda enfrentará a la australiana Ajla Tomljanovic. Con este triunfo Keys mantiene sus opciones de clasificar a las WTA Finals.
La checa Marie Bouzkova se impuso a su compatriota Tereza Martincova por 6-2 y 7-5, para citarse en segunda ronda con la colombiana Camila Osorio.
La croata Donna Vekic, quien viene de ser finalista en el torneo de San Diego, venció en su presentación a la brasileña Laura Pigossi por 6-4 y 6-1. Por su pase a la tercera ronda chocará con la rusa Veronika Kudermetova, octava sembrada

Kalinskaya snaps Krejcikova´s winning streak
Guadalajara, Jal., 18 de octubre 2022..- Russian Anna Kalinskaya surprisingly defeated Czech Barbora Krejcikova, snapping a nine-match winning streak for the 9th seeded.
Kalinskaya won 6-3, 6-4 to move on to the second round of the GDL Open Akron 1000, setting up a date with Belgium’s Elise Mertens.
Facing each other for the first time, Kalinskaya found her way. The Russian is no stranger to the Estadio Akron court, reaching the semifinals of the Abierto de Zapopan last February in this same building. Krejcikova, however, had also played here during the WTA Finals 2021.
Krejcikova arrived in Guadalajara after winning consecutive titles in Tallin and Ostrava, but she finished with 46 unforced error and 45% of first serves, losing for the first time in 10 matches.
“I like playing here, I haven’t seen fans like these ones. I came out with confidence because I knew how important it was to play well in the first few points”, said Kalinskaya after her match.
Kalinskaya came out strong and broke serve in the second game. Krejcikova struggled to keep her serve in the next few games, but that break was all the difference. She couldn’t convert a break point in the 3rd game and the Russian cruised to win the first set.
Krejcikova’s start of the second set didn’t go well, but she managed to keep her serve after facing break-point.
The Czech lost her serve in the games 3 and 4 and broke in the fourth. She finished with 45% of first serves and 10 double faults.
The American Madison Keys (13) defeated Poland’s Magda Linette 6-3, 6-3 to move on to the next round, where she will face Australian Ajla Tomljanovic. The victory allowed Keys to keep her chances of reaching the WTA Finals.
In other result, Marie Bouzkova defeated her fellow Czech Tereza Martincova 6-2, 7-5, setting a match with Colombian Camila Osorio in the second round.
Croatian Donna Vekic, who arrives after playing the San Diego Open final over the weekend, debuted with a win 6-4, 6-1 over the Brazilian Laura Pigossi. She will be playing against Russian Veronika Kudermetova for a place in the third round.
