Guadalajara, Jalisco, 22 de octubre 2022.- La tenista estadounidense Jessica Pegula se recuperó de un 0-3 en contra en el inicio del partido y frenó el paso victorioso de Victoria Azarenka para clasificarse a la final del GDL Open Akron 1000, donde buscará este domingo el segundo título de su carrera profesional.

Pegula, número 5 del ranking de la Asociación Femenil de Tenis (WTA), se quedó con el triunfo por parciales de 7-6 (7/3) y 6-1 en 1:29 horas de acción, suficiente para acabar con Azarenka, con la que igualó 2-2 en su serie de duelos personales.

La experiencia de Azarenka sacó adelante a la ex número uno del mundo, quien lució más concentrada y efectiva en el inicio del partido hasta ponerse 3-0 con un rompimiento incluido. Entonces llegó la reacción de la mejor tenista de Estados Unidos del momento.

Con el 4-1 en contra Pegula comenzó a jugar mejor, sus impactos eran precisos y en diversos momentos dejó sin respuesta a la dos veces ganadora de Grand Slams, a la que le rompió el servicio en el séptimo game y luego lo consolidó con el 4-4. Este domingo jugará la final contra la vencedora del duelo entre la griega Maria Sakkari y la checa Marie Bouzkova, que será uno de los estelares en la penúltima jornada de actividades en el GDL Open Akron 1000.
