Bouzkova and her romance with Guadalajara

Guadalajara, Jalisco, October 20, 2022.- Marie Bouzkova turns into “Super Marie” every time she comes to Guadalajara. The Czech came back to win an incredible match on Thursday against Russian Liudmila Samsonova in the GDL Open Akron and become the player with the most wins in Guadalajara, including WTA 250 events.

Bouzkova made the final at the Abierto Zapopan 2019, two years later she fell short in the semifinals, and she made it back to the final this year.

She already has three wins this week, and she credits her performance to the energy she receives from her Mexican fans.

“I always enter this court feeling at home, I always know I’ll get a lot of support. I have such great memories from this place, I always give my best and whenever I’m in this court I feel like I can win, and I enjoy it a lot”, she said after advancing to the quarterfinals.

Being among the last eight players in the last WTA 1000 of the season is an achievement by itself, but Marie puts the pressure aside for her upcoming match.

“Tomorrow is a new day and I’ll give everything once again. In this kind of tournaments even surviving the first round it is tough so I can only promise to give it all. The support I get here keeps me confident and energizes me when things aren’t going my way”, she explained in perfect Spanish.

On her hard-fought win, she said she didn’t want to leave so she kept battling instead.

“The win means a lot because I found a way to change how everything was going and found a way to play a little bit better to win”.

By playing in the quarterfinals, Bouzkova secured herself 190 points and at least $57,440.
